Housing NZ and Proposed Ward Boundary Changes Meeting Tuesday 14 August

Meadowbank & St Johns Residents Association

Come along to our next monthly meeting on Tuesday 14 August to hear Councillor Desley Simpson tell us more about the proposed ward boundary changes (and to hear about Housing NZ's operations in our area).

Due to population growth in Auckland's CBD the Council is reviewing ward boundaries. Meadowbank and St Johns currently sit in Orakei Ward. Part of the proposal to reshuffle boundaries is for part of St Johns to be moved to the Maungakiekie Ward - see map. While we understand the need to ensure that council wards contain approx the same amount of people, we have some questions about this proposal and what it means for our suburbs.

- Does this mean that local board boundaries may change down the track?
- Would it make St Johns a less cohesive suburb?
- Why is it proposed for St Johns to split from Orakei rather than Stonefields and does this make sense?
- What are the future population growth projections?
- Does having two councillors create more work for the (100% volunteer run) Residents Association or does it mean twice the voice round the negotiating table?

We look forward to discussing these and other questions next Tuesday 7:30pm at St Chads Church, 38 St Johns Rd.
