Finger & thumb sucking - Consequences and remedies.

Loyola from Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group

Anne is now 11 years old, but has been my patient for the past 6 years. She is a compulsive finger sucker and nothing that her mum or I said, would convince her to stop or try to break the habit. Her fingers show the scars too.

A year ago, I decided to take a close up set of high-res photos of her teeth and put them up on my screen. The shock on little Anne's face was enough and she said that she wanted to have a beautiful smile.

Anne came to see me last week, a whole year later, and her mum said that from the last visit, she had stopped the finger sucking totally. Merely breaking her habit allowed Nature and her lip pressure with normal swallowing movements to correct the problem. The power of high resolution digital intra-oral photography cannot be under-estimated as seen in this delightful case, where no treatment was necessary to correct the problem.

Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group, is a Preventive Care practice and we actively promote the amazing ability of the body to self correct and heal. However, we also use habit correcting appliances and other means to get the right growth and development. We love seeing children and we track them with regular visits.

Edmund Hillary Retirement Village

Downsizing can open the door to a new stage of your life that is rich in opportunity. However, it can be a daunting prospect. This can be true even if the life changes are a good thing, such as a move to somewhere you will love to live.

Once you understand why you have this feeling, you can reframe it as creating a new environment that will support your present life while reminding you of your best experiences.
