Tēnā koutou and welcome to this special EVENTS edition of our newsletter!

With so many events coming up, we thought we'd send out an extra newsletter for you to stay up-to-date this week.

Join us for a free light lunch and a cuppa at one of our monthly pop-up hubs, learn tips to keep your brain healthy, join a falls prevention exercise class, and much more!

SENIOR REGIONAL GAMES
Come and join in on the fun at the 2020 Senior Regional Games! This free event celebrates ageing through physical and social activities that are inclusive and accessible for senior needs. 

There will be a variety of games available ranging from sports, such as badminton, pickleball, indoor bowls and walking netball, to dancing and live music: something for everyone! 

The 2020 Senior Regional Games is a free event that has been designed and prepared by Upper Hutt City Council, Hutt City Council, Wellington City Council, Kapiti Coast District Council, Age Concern Wellington and Sport Wellington.

There will be free buses available for seniors. Pick up points will be Johnsonville, Karori, Upper Hutt, and Lower Hutt. Call Imelda on 04 499 6646 for more information or to reserve your place on the bus.

BRAIN HEALTH WORKSHOP
Like the body, the brain benefits from being active, to maintain a healthy and clear mind. The Brain Health Workshop will offer tools to achieve this. 

After a talk from Dr Yoram Barak from Otago University, we will prepare a meal together, eat, and then complete the session with a one-hour brain health activity that we will design together.

This innovative four-part workshop is part of a research project aimed at understanding the importance of social activity on keeping our brains healthy in older age.

STAYING SAFE WORKSHOPS FOR SENIOR DRIVERS

Staying Safe is a classroom-based refresher workshop for senior road users. The workshop aims to maintain and improve safe driving practices and increase the knowledge of other transport options available to help senior road users remain safely mobile.

When: Monday 9th November 10am - 2pm
Where: Anvil house 138 Wakefield Street, Te Aro

NEW STEADY AS YOU GO EXERCISE CLASSES
These classes are designed to improve strength and balance and help prevent a fall. Steady as You Go classes improve balance and leg strength, flexibility, general fitness and wellbeing, and are a great way to meet new people. Classes consist of a combination of sitting, standing and walking exercises, and take around an hour. For a full list of Steady As You Go classes around the Region, click here

SLEEP PRESENTATION
Sleep changes with ageing and its relationship to health and well being. Come along to hear about the importance of sleep and to learn some tips surrounding sleep.
