Academic Scholarship

The Whitby Collegiate Academic Scholarship is offered to one new Year 7 student & one new Year 9 student. These students must excel academically in music or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths). These are awarded on academic merit.

 The scholarship contributes:
  - 50% per year for tuition fees

Excellence Scholarship

The Whitby Collegiate Excellence Scholarship is offered to a new Year 7 or Year 9 student who excels in ONE of the following areas of sport, music or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) and shows excellent character. These are awarded on merit.

The scholarship contributes:
  - 50% per year for tuition fees
  - $500 for course-related costs

John Fiso All-round Scholarship

The Whitby Collegiate John Fiso Scholarship is offered to an exceptional new Year 7 or Year 9 student who excels in at least TWO of the following areas – Sport, Music or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths). This Scholarship will be granted to a student whose family, due to personal circumstances, might not otherwise be able to consider enrolment at Whitby Collegiate. 

This student must be of excellent character, and their behaviour must reflect the values of the school. This scholarship would suit a student who is considered to be an outstanding all-rounder. This scholarship is awarded strictly on merit.

Please note that further information regarding family circumstances may be requested at a later date.

The scholarship contributes:
  - 100% per year for tuition fees
  - $1,000 for course-related costs

Application Details

Scholarships awarded are applied to the tuition fee portion of the current year’s school fees. Course-related costs are any additional school items or costs related to the student’s schooling. All families make some financial contribution to their child’s education. This includes a laptop or similar device as well as school uniform costs and transport.

Applicants for all Scholarships must be available to sit the exams on the date specified otherwise their application will not be considered.

Terms & Conditions

• All excellence scholarship and academic scholarship applicants must be Year 7 or Year 9 in year of entry

• All applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident

• The applicant must be available to sit the exams on the date specified otherwise their application will not be considered.

• Year 7 scholarships are awarded for a period of 2 years. Following a review, this scholarship may be extended at the discretion of the Proprietor’s Board.

• Year 9 scholarships are awarded for a period of 5 years.

• The tenure of the Scholarship is closely monitored, with a mid-year review and a full review at the end of each academic year. The scholarship recipient is expected to contribute fully to all Whitby Collegiate sporting or cultural events, trips, exchanges etc. for which they are selected. Should a student not be fully committed to their studies and/or college wide involvement the scholarship could be withdrawn and the recipient may be required to reimburse the scholarship fees.

• All scholarships are not transferrable and lasts only while the student is in full time education between Years 7 and 13 at Whitby Collegiate.

• We expect that recipients will do all they can to be a positive influence at Whitby Collegiate; that their enthusiasm for school life and adherence to high standards in behaviour, dress and manner of speaking will be consistent with the faith the school has shown in them by awarding them this Scholarship.

• All families must make some financial contribution to their child’s education. Whitby Collegiate Scholarships provide a contribution towards the cost of Tuition Fees, in addition all families are asked to contribute with payment of the Levies and the Parents' Association subscription. A full explanation of the School Fees can be found here. Parents and caregivers are also required to provide a laptop or similar device, as well as school uniform, stationery, and transport costs.

You must include all the following documentation:

• Most recent school report

• Reference letter written by someone who is not a family member or a school teacher. It should be someone who has known the applicant for some time and seen the applicant in situations outside of family/school. It could be a coach, pastor/vicar, Scout or Brownie/Guide leader.

• CV written by the student which outlines exactly why they are eligible for the scholarship – achievements in music, sport or STEAM

• Evidence of New Zealand citizenship/permanent residency

• Recent photograph of student

• Applicants for the John Fiso All-round Scholarship and the Excellence Scholarship must provide some form of evidence highlighting their performance or achievements. This may be in the form of certificate, presentation or short video (up to 5 minutes).
