Fourteen groups get helping hand

More than a dozen community groups have received grants in Waitematā Local Board’s latest Quick Response round.

In one of her first acts as a new board member, Denise Roche moved grants totalling $15,518 be made.

"There are worm farms for a school, funding for music workshops for children with disabilities, and help for the Deaf community, so I’m very happy to see these grants made.”

Waitematā Local Board grant recipients

  • Auckland Women’s Centre, $2043, video equipment to live-stream Diversity Forums to members unable to attend - sick, elderly, single parents.
  • Graduate Choir NZ Trust, $500, Ave Maria recital performance costs.
  • StarJam Charitable Trust, $1650, Music workshop programmes for youths with disability.
  • St Peter’s College Board of trustees, $870, three worm farms.
  • Westhaven Radio Sailing, $570, towards the purchase of a bench weighing scale for radio yachts for events at Westhaven Marina.
  • Grey Lynn Business Association, $1200, towards the fees to prepare, design and distribute a monthly newsletter to March 2018.
  • Auckland Performing Arts Centre, $1000, electrical upgrade to LED lighting in two studios and a dressing room.
  • Parnell Community Trust, $1000, tutor costs for sustainable urban living workshops.
  • Breaking Boundaries, $1035, towards the cost of yoga instructor wages, venue hire, promotional materials, and catering for LGBTQI yoga workshops.
  • Deaf Wellbeing Society, $1035, wages (two hours/week) for a coordinator to help run the arts and craft lessons for the deaf at Melville cricket pavilion.
  • NZ Dance Festival Trust, $1000, Tempo Dance Festival 2018 New Zealand Dance Week project (CityDance), towards artists' fees, production costs and marketing for a dance installation in the city centre.
  • NZ Dance Advancement Trust, $1500, Are We There Yet - senior & youth dance collaboration, towards studio hire, choreography development, teacher fees, costumes and marketing for a senior and youth performance.
  • Life Education Trust, $1150, purchase of Harold puppet and Karpet Kid teaching resources used to engage with students.
  • Youthline Auckland Charitable Trust, $1000, supporting the free helpline - a portion of the overall phone bill.
