Safety improvements update

Work on the eastern side of Ngapipi Road and the new sea wall on Tamaki Drive continues.

What happened last week?
  • We continued to form the embankment for the new seawall on Tamaki Drive by importing and placing rocks.

  • We started removing the existing bluestone kerbs and installing new subsoil drains along Ngapipi Road west. The bluestone kerbs have been stockpiled for reuse later.
What happens this week?
  • We will continue to form the new embankment and install the basalt rock facing for the new seawall along Tamaki Drive.

  • Weather permitting, night work is planned between 26 - 28 November for the installation of new drainage on Ngapipi Road. This will be done under a go/stop operation from 7.00pm to 5.00am. If this work is delayed due to weather, it will be postponed to the next fine night(s).
What to watch out for?
  • We plan to temporarily change the free left turn from Ngapipi Road to Tamaki Drive to a give way control. This change will take place after the Christmas and New Year break, when the traffic is at its lightest. This change is required to accommodate the work adjacent to the bridge abutments. Ngapipi Road traffic will need to give way to traffic on Tamaki Drive during this period, 8 - 31 January 2018.

  • With summer fast approaching there will be more pedestrians and cyclists along Tamaki Drive. Please approach the work site safely and watch out for all road users at the intersection.
