COMPANION WALKING SERVICE
Would you like to go out more but find it difficult to go out on your own? If you’d like to go for a walk in your community, to the park, local café or shops, then we can help. Our carefully chosen and trained volunteer walking companions are keen to support you. We will match you with a local companion with similar interests so that you can enjoy a walk together.

Click HERE to see how one of our clients enjoys her walks with her volunteer.

ACCREDITED VISITOR SERVICE
We provide companionship to people over 65 who would like a regular visit from a friendly volunteer. We aim to match people with volunteers who live in the same area and have similar interests. Clients enjoy the benefits of walking and being outside, seeing what is going on in their community. They also visit other places like the Botanical Gardens and parks close by with flat areas to walk.

PEN PAL SERVICE
We work hard to connect seniors with our volunteers who have similar interests. Get your writing paper and pen (or email if you prefer) ready. Everybody loves getting mail, unless it is a bill of course.

PHONE FRIEND SERVICE
Do you like having a natter on the phone? We have many volunteers waiting to get chatting. We try our best to connect seniors with like-minded volunteers.

SHOPPING SERVICE
We have a shopping service for seniors. There are many volunteers offering to help with shopping, so don't hesitate to contact us if you need help.

CONNECT!

OUR VOICE
We would love to hear from our readers. Please share a few lines about your hobbies, a recipe, a pattern, a story, artwork, a poem... We'd like to read about anything that you think other readers would enjoy!

Reader Submission:  DJ Bradley "Thpitting" poem.

Hope this gives you a giggle for the day. Can you just imagine a young boy discussing this poem with an old man; maybe his grandfather. The boy has a speech impediment and can’t say  “s”.

Thpitting
Everybody’th got a hobby.  Mine’th  thpitting .
I thpit magnifithently .
I thpit in curveth, In thpiralth and in little poolth
And in and out the windowth.

One day I met a man and I thaid  Whatth your hobby?
He thaid  thippting.
Thath mine I thaid
He thpat magnifithently too.
He thpat in curveth. In thpiralth and in little poolth
And up and down the chimneyth.

Then I thpat.
I thpat ath I had never thpat before;
I thpat in curveth. In thpiralth and in little poolth
And in and out the windowth.
Then….   I thpat right in hith eye
He wath pleathed and thurprithed

LIVE STRONGER FOR LONGER SURVEY

Live Stronger For Longer are conducting research so that they can develop a solution which delivers great, sustainable outcomes in the injury prevention space for New Zealanders that are 65 years or older. The research is open to people aged 65 and over; their friends and whanau; and health professionals working with people aged 65 and over. If you could spare 5-10 minutes to fill out the survey or know someone who can, they would love your input!

Click HERE for the link to the survey.

NEIGHBOURS DAY SURVEY
The Wellington City Council are asking people for feedback on the materials and Neighbours Day, and how they can improve it this coming year. Wellington residents who fill out the survey will be in the draw for a Sustainability Trust voucher.

To fill in the survey, click HERE for the link.

Remember to wash your hands, record your movements and be kind

COVID-19 WEBSITE AND CONTACT TRACING
Please keep track of your movements. The Ministry of Health has created a tracing app; NZ COVID Tracer. This app works by scanning a QR code (quick response code) on a poster at participating businesses. The app then keeps track of where you have scanned so that you know where you have been.

COVID-19 CONTACT TRACER BOOKLET
While the tracer app is the best method, the government have created a COVID-19 Contact Tracker booklet as an accessible alternative. This is to support contact tracing in our community for those who can’t access a smartphone or may not be adept at QR code scanning. The booklet acts as journal, so you can write details about where you’ve been and who you’ve seen. You can order or download a copy, or we may be able to give you a copy. Please call us on 04 499 6648 if you would like a copy.

MAKING FACE COVERINGS WORK FOR EVERYONE
It is recommended to wear a face covering or mask when travelling on public transport.
