Happy Days -
In 1987, I was a young attorney in Miami Beach, every Friday taking a seaplane to the Bahamas to help my father in his restaurant and bar. A Swedish girl that I was dating told me that U2 was coming to Miami and suggested that we go. I had never heard of them before, but she had seen them in Europe and was very keen to see them again. U2 was playing its newly released album, Joshua Tree. We went, with 84,000 others, and saw the concert at the Orange Bowl football stadium.
Of the over 150 concerts that I have seen, I rank that show amongst the top. From the beginning of the first song, we never sat down over 3 hours. You really have to see Joshua Tree played live to feel its power.
Over the last few years, a concert promoter has promoted a series of concerts entitled "Come Together". For each concert, he has assembled the best NZ rock musicians, handpicked to play a legendary classic rock band's best album. All his shows that I have seen have been tremendous.
On 10/5/24, he will present a concert playing in its entirety, and in my mind U2's best album, Joshua Tree. Some of its songs are "Where the Streets have No Name", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "With or Without You", "In God's Country", and "One Tree Hill". The band will also play other U2's hits from their different albums.
Since the show is on a Friday, I decided to have our meetup then. I am announcing it months ahead to afford you an opportunity to buy tickets, for it will it will certainty be sold out.
We will meet for drinks at 7:00 downstairs at the Bliss Bar, as it is near the Opera House. After the show, we will continue our party at another bar.
Best wishes - Michael
