𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝟭:
When I was playing badminton for the school team, we would spend HOURS aiming at a cone at a specific spot in the court, targetting the opponent's backhand.
In the process, I'd feel the lactic acid buildup in my muscles, the frustration from missing the cone, and the sweat flowing down my face.
It was gruelling, and sometimes I would think "that's impossible" and then I'd hear my coach say: 再来!(let's do it again)
We would do this repeatedly for hours. At the height of my training, I spent 16 hours per week on the court.
On competition day is when we realise why we did it. Because when the shot comes your way, muscle memory kicks in and you go for the shot, and voila, shuttle smacks to the ground and you get the point! 🏸🙌
𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝟮:
When I first started as a speaker, I would talk in very long sentences, trying to impress with my intellectual jargon.
I thought that if I liked what I was talking about, so would everyone.
But the audience will tell you if they don't like it. They would walk out, write it in their feedback, come up and tell you to your face. They would cancel your session.
You take it, go back to the drawing board, ask for help, and practice it repeatedly. This also means watching your own videos (CRINGE!) to catch the little things you could change, like movement of your body, word choice, timing of your joke.
When you next get on stage and deliver your speech is when you realise why you did it. You command the stage, are charismatic AND sound intellectual without coming across as nerdy. 🎤🙌 People cheer for you!
𝗡𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀?
I believe it's more important to:
→ Do it
→ Reflect
→ Ask for help
➡ Then Repeat
🔥 You get good because you work on it consistently and are not afraid to take the setbacks as they come.
🔥 You get good because you look at how others do it well and learn from it, rather than compare and tell yourself "I can't".
🔥 You get good because you keep learning and evolving, not because you're an overnight success.
❓𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸? 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲?
TGIF everyone!
