I am going to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House South Island & 5% going to Tai Tapu Playcentre. I am going to have my hair shaved off.

Canterbury

Hello, I’m Mel. I’m a 41 year old, married, stay at home mum to two gorgeous girls, Jayla aged 4 and Sedona aged 15 months.

I am so fortunate that both of my children are healthy and thriving, but sadly not all families can say the same. I feel a strong pull to help these families, as I believe it’s hugely important as a community to support each other in difficult times, in a way that helps these families in a practical way.

THIS IS WHY I AM GOING TO HAVE MY HAIR SHAVED OFF ON SUNDAY 1ST NOVEMBER AT 10.30AM!

Between now and the 1st November, I will be looking for sponsors who are willing to donate whatever they can afford to this cause. All funds raised will be donated – 95% to Ronald McDonald House South Island and 5% to Tai Tapu Playcentre.

The way I will raise these funds, is through posting on community Facebook pages, door knocking and asking friends, families, everyone, to please support my Givealittle page. Even if it is $1 or $2 it all adds up!

If you make a donation of $100 or more (from you personally or from your business), I’m really happy to give you a shout out on my social media pages to give you the kudos you deserve! This is especially great exposure for businesses who donate!

The reason I’ve chosen to give the majority of donations to Ronald McDonald House South Island, is because they support New Zealand families when their child is staying in hospital away from home. They keep families together, positively impacting on their journey by allowing them to focus on their children. If you would like to know more about Ronald McDonald House South Island, you can access their website via this link https://rmhsi.org.nz/ Tai Tapu Playcentre will be the beneficiary of 5% of funds raised, as they support so many families in our local community. 'Playcentre Aotearoa is a family organisation which empowers adults and children to work, play, learn and grow together. Playcentre is an internationally recognised early childhood organisation which began in 1941. The movement started with the aim of providing opportunities for the social development of the pre school child and children have the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment. The Tai Tapu branch (where my family attend) was established in 1969.

This isn’t a decision I have made lightly, I love my hair and to be honest, I am quite nervous and apprehensive about having a bald head! The last time I had short hair was when I was about eleven years old and I currently have very long blonde hair! I also have a skin condition called psoriasis, so my scalp can be very dry. So for me this is a really big deal! But I firmly believe that for me to ask for your hard earned money, I need to GO BIG and do something which is a stretch for me personally. Perhaps I can inspire you to join me to do the same?

I plan to drive awareness for my fundraiser and also the charity organisations we’re supporting. Feel free to communicate with me on my Facebook page where I will be updating regularly of my progress. So please do follow and share my Givealittle page, Facebook page and Instagram.

If you would like to connect with me or ask for a shout out for your business donation, please message me on melellen7@gmail.com
