Started by Ellen Schindler

The Gribblehirst Hub, lease holder for the upstairs of the old Bowling Club and the Bowling Greens at Gribblehirst Park have allowed a young couple to build a Tiny House on the Greens as a temporary education project ticking all the boxes for community engagement, collaboration of a diverse audience and talents, encouraging diy and affordable showcase for (young) people fo their own solving of the Auckland Housing crisis.

Auckland Council decided to throw the book at the group and the couple and it requested that the project needs to be removed; an extension to 23.4. was given by the CEO to make the Tiny House safe to move - council officers were so ignorant and requested removal in an unsafe state.

This is a temporary project that was never to be a permanent occupation.
Al council needs to do is choose the community-friendly end of the law and give discretion to allow for the full build and learnings of this project onsite. This is overall a 4-5 months project and only about three more to go.

I am a member of the Gribblehirst Hub and over the last few weeks have been privileged like everybody passing by to witness a young couple building their dream and providing information and education to whoever comes by and asks.
I am impressed by the generousity of how they share their story.
I see people of all ages and experiences coming into dialogue about building, housing, builder’s tips, sustainable building - a much much needed conversation.
