Changing how we collect rates

Since 1989, Bay of Plenty Regional Council relied on the seven city and district councils in the region to invoice and collect rates on our behalf. However, we recognise the importance of transparency and accountability in our work for you.

In 2022 we made changes to how our rates are invoiced and paid. These changes give you visibility into how your money is spent - specifically towards creating a healthy environment, ensuring freshwater for life, fostering safe and resilient communities and promoting a vibrant Bay of Plenty region.

If you are a ratepayer, your Bay of Plenty Regional Council rates are no longer invoiced by your city or district council. Instead, you are invoiced by Bay of Plenty Regional Council, and you pay your rates directly to us.

Your city/district rates invoicing, and rates collection process remains unchanged.
