The residents of Pt Chevalier are calling on Auckland Council, the Police and Auckland Transport to take immediate action to prevent the antisocial behaviour, excessive noise, vandalism, assaults, and sexual assaults that have been occurring in Coyle Park. 

Over the past twenty years there have been repeated complaints to Auckland Council and the Police about late night drinking, antisocial behaviour, and vandalism of the bus shelters, facilities, and park equipment in Coyle Park. Local residents have had to personally intervene to prevent sexual assaults, and call police to try and stop sexual and violent assaults as they occur.

We have noticed that most of the incidents are after midnight and involve alcohol. Closing the gate to the park makes a difference.

We all want our communities to be safe. If we are to be serious about reducing the number and severity of these incidents in Coyle Park, including the violent and sexual assaults, we believe there needs to be a stronger focus on prevention. We need to work together to achieve this.

We would like Auckland Council, the Police, and Auckland Transport to work together with Pt Chev residents to ensure:
• The gate to Coyle Park is closed every night without fail – this is currently not happening.

• The closure time is shifted to an earlier time - before midnight,

• The alcohol (and drug) ban is enforced after midnight. We would like the police to drive by Coyle Park during the night as part of their driving route and move people drinking and making excessive noise on. We would also like the security company and bus drivers to take a pro-active prevention approach, reporting any excessive noise, drinking, antisocial behaviour when they see it.

• The last bus is rerouted so that it does not need to use the turning bay at Coyle Park so the gate can be closed before midnight.

• Monitored security cameras are placed in the Coyle Park carpark.

As this has been an ongoing issue, we would now like to see Auckland Council, the Police and Auckland Transport prioriise this and address it with urgency.
