Kiwi coffin club Christchurch (security cost) securing the container after burglary

$2,210 donated
Given by 35 generous donors in around 3 months

Maintaining the coffin club Christchurch and providing Christchurch womens hospital with angel boxes as required

Canterbury

I started the kiwi coffin club 3 years ago with the vision of providing free angel boxes for still birth and cot death babies ,funded by adult caskets sold for $400 and then contributing to the doing up of the caskets with family involvement which is a very therapeutic process supporting grieving people and those with terminal illness and also the general public wanting something representing their lives

Jill Newton from the coffin club along with Rick from the MENS shed are now making and dressing tiny angel boxes for women who have miscarriages so the loss is recognised and not forgotten

Last year the kiwi coffin club received an award from Rotary for our service to the community the coffin club has 5 trustees and volunteers helping out the MENS shed build all the caskets both large and small and in the baby caskets fixing beautiful vallance mattress and pillow and gold fittings with wooden handles

WE ARE SEEKING CHARITY STATUS ORGANISED THROUGH OUR LAWYER PARRY AND FIELD WHICH HAS BEEN WITH THE CHARITY COMISSION FOR 6 MONTHS HOPEFULLY NOT TO MUCH LONGER SO THAT DONARS CAN GET A TAX REFUND

Big day Monday rung at 7am to be told by one of the MENS shed men working early to say that the container I have done up for the kiwi coffinclub charity had been broken into and my compressor ,guns , and hoses have all been stolen I have been on the phone all day sourcing security ideas insurance and talking to police while they took finger prints off the broken window and damaged door lock I have another day of it again tomorrow with window being fixed and putting in an alarm also checking out other security measures I don’t want to use bars as I want the container to be seen as a safe warm place to visit when people come to visit this is taking money away from the still birth and cot death babies that we at the MENS shed and kiwi coffin club donate angel boxes free to the womens hospital the security measures that we need are now going to come out of the money that the club has been saving up tp put toward a van we are very saddened by this event the perpetrators had no respect when in the container they threw baby caskets Willy nilly and opened a large adult casket obviously looking for money butchered the main door lock and broke awindow to get. The charity now needs to make the container as secure as possible and this costs money which we don’t have a lot of
