He also managed a timber mill in Rotorua and had all the timber (mainly heart Rimu) for his new house trucked up to Meadowbank.

It was ahead of its time and revolutionary, with a timeless sense of architecture about it even then, and its rock-solid construction has certainly stood firm over the past 69 years.

One of the home's most striking features is the entrance way. It has the classic 1950's stone design and grand pillars which make a very dramatic first impression.
