About the Event

This is the first in a sequence of courses guiding us through the fascinating world of wild fermentation. This workshop will bring information about the basic techniques and philosophies of sourdough baking. There will be bread baking and tasting and Adriana will be giving away some of her mature starter to encourage everyone to try and make it at home.

Adriana is a Pastry chef by trade and her sourdough journey has started about 5years ago as a part of her path to improve her diet and healthy eating habits.

"I have always loved baked goods and the idea of taking them out of my daily meals seemed too hard for me to do so instead, I decided to learn more about clean ingredients, nutrition and gut health and understanding the amazing role of the bacterias in our body that comes from naturally fermented foods were just part of the process".

In 2019, she's started a micro bakery in the North West coast of Tasmania selling mostly sourdough baked goods to restaurants, cafes, health shops and at the weekly farmers markets. Within a month from her first market stall, she was making and selling over 120kg of dough, all made by hand using the traditional way of sourdough bread.

"Everything happened very quick and made me realize there's so many people like me out there, people who don't want to feel bad because they had a thick crusty slice of breath for breakfast!" Due to the current situation, Adriana and her partner decided to move back to NZ to be close to their family and friends and she is bringing her passion for health and food to our community. "I feel blessed to be part of this great community and hopefully will get as many people as I can to learn about this amazing food made with just flour+water+salt and a touch of love🙏 Healthy Happy baking everyone 😊"

This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (education@riverside.org.nz) to discuss sponsorship options if you are struggling to meet the workshop fee or to enquire about more info.
