Kia ora everyone,
We hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the small pleasure of being able to get a takeaway coffee in Level 3.
As per last months Kawerongo Hiko / eNews, we are taking this opportunity to share resources for support during Level 3 lockdown, as well as events that have moved online, and cancellation or postponement notices. 
So please read on for some great online options to keep you and your whānau occupied over the coming weeks, while we cross our fingers and hope for good news.

Auckland Council COVID-19 Support


Auckland Council is helping individuals, families and households that are facing hardship.

If you are an individual, family or household where access to food for you or your family in isolation is of concern, please contact Auckland Council contact line: 3010101 as the call staff can assist you to find the service you need.  The Council’s Welfare team contact phone number is: 0800 22 22 00.

Covid-19 Level 3 Lockdown Support

There are a number of volunteers in the Devonport Peninsula community who are willing to help with grocery shopping or pharmacy pick ups, if you are unable to get out or feel uncomfortable doing so.

If you would like this kind of support, please contact one of the following people who will link you with a volunteer:

Age Concern Auckland

Age Concern Auckland are reinstating their Emergency Response Service, coordinating essential support to those older adults who need it. 

The support they can provide is:

  • Shopping for and delivering essential groceries, including pet food
  • Delivery of face masks
  • Collection and delivery of essential prescriptions
  • Welfare calls for those who need a friendly chat

These meetings will only be accessible to active participants such as board members, staff and members of the public scheduled to present to the meeting.
However, the sessions with be recorded and uploaded to the DTLB Youtube channel when available.

Devonport-Takapuna Quick Response Grant

Devonport-Takapuna Quick Response Grant - Round One for 2021-2022 is now open for submissions and will close at 10pm Friday 15 October 2021.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board have set the following limits for local grants:

  • Maximum amount per grant: generally up to $2,000
  • Projects must occur after 1st December 2021
  • Priorities and exclusions for this fund can be found in the grants programme

Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund for Events in 2022

The Ministry's Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund supports events that commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and promote nation and community building. The Fund aims to encourage a wider mix of communities to take part in Waitangi Day events. Applicants to the Fund should be able to demonstrate that recognition of the Treaty of Waitangi is a central theme in their event.

Applications close at 5pm on 22 October 2021.

Hōtoke/Winter Fun Preschool Play


Hōtoke Fun Preschool Play is on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions.
While we are missing our weekly play sessions, we have been using our time to round up a bunch of fun activities for you to do at home with your tamariki of all ages.

Bayswater Halloween Trail POSTPONED


After much consideration, we have decided to postpone the Bayswater Halloween Trail to Friday 1st April 2022, when we can have a proper Autumn Halloween! 🧟‍♀️
While we are disappointed that we won't get to see all your wonderful costumes this October, the safety of our community is our number one priority.
We think it will be well worth the wait. 🦇
In the meantime, keep an eye out for an upcoming Halloween colouring competition, and make sure to secure your Halloween costume when they are on sale in October!

Due to this workshop coinciding with the COVID-19 Alert Level restrictions in Tāmaki Makaurau, this event has been postponed.

The Devonport Community House October School Holiday Programme 


This programme can run in Alert Level 2 or below. As soon as more info is received on Alert Level changes and timings, the Community House will be in touch to advise when tickets can be booked.

School Holiday Activity - Sea Monsters

 

When: Saturday 2nd October - Sunday 17th October, 10:00am - 5:00pm

Where: Torpedo Bay Navy Museum and/or online, depending on lockdown Alert Levels. 
Cost: TBC
Keep the kids entertained this October holiday with Torpedo Bay Navy Museum's Sea Monsters activity. During COVID-19 Alert Level 4 or 3 there will be an online activity for families to download from their website.
At Alert Level 2 or lower the activity will be available in person at the Museum.

Art Club with Hannah - Zoom Art Sessions for Kids

ART CLUB IS BACK!
Art Club sessions are a space to be creative, connect with others and participate with materials you have around the house. Hannah will help you use what you have to create your own piece of art!

Fun Palace - Postponed


Torpedo Bay Navy Museum is sad to announce that due to COVID-19 restrictions in Auckland, and uncertainty around when we are likely to be at Alert Level 1, they have decided to cancel Fun Palace at Devonport.
They would like to thank those who had generously offered to share their time and skills at Fun Palace.

Auckland Heritage Festival Cancelled

After much consideration, the difficult decision has been made to CANCEL this years’ Auckland Heritage Festival.

While this is disappointing, their priority is the safety of all participants.

NZ Sculpture OnShore - Exhibition to go online

After the tremendous effort and hard work of the last few months, NZ Sculpture OnShore are sad to announce that they will be canceling their public exhibition at Fort Takapuna, which was due to open in late October. 

However, all is not lost! With many of the stunning sculptures completed or close to it, they are now focussing on bringing you the artworks via other platforms and galvanising their supporter base to raise money for Woman’s Refuge.

Stay tuned as they build a digital exhibition and fundraising campaign to generate much-needed revenue for Woman’s Refuge.
They sincerely thank you all for your support and encouragement.

The JETS Run returns for the Summer with a choice of 3km, 5km and 10km waterfront routes starting at the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum. Opportunity for both serious and casual runners to participate in a friendly gathering with a post-race sports drink & prizes.

Love Tennis Open Day at Ngataringa Tennis Club - Postponed

Everyone is invited to the Ngataringa Tennis Club's annual fun and action-packed OPEN DAY to celebrate the new 2021/2022 tennis season.

They will be serving up a fun, free event for players of all ages and abilities. Visitors, new joiners and club members, everyone is welcome. Meet your friendly local tennis community and try out (or get back into) tennis!

PulseArt - Over My Shoulder

This exhibition is a glance into what has been and could still be for each of us. "As artists we approach this subject through painting and collage to reflect on and recreate our personal visual narratives."

Fran Marno, Beth Hudson, Sue Vincent Marshall and Cathy Head make up the PulseArt collective.
PulseArt is an Auckland based lesbian group formed in 1999 who aspire to greater lesbian visibility. They have exhibited mainly in Auckland but also in Hamilton, Wellington and Sydney.

Stanley Bowling & Petanque Club Inc
20 Stanley Pt Rd, Stanley Bay

Stanley Bowling & Petanque Club are a small friendly club situated in a glorious spot overlooking the water at Stanley Bay.  They play bowls in summer and petanque all year round.  New members are always welcome, just check out the playing times on the website and turn up.
They have plenty of equipment to loan out – please remember to wear flat, closed in shoes.  
In addition, they have an active social club which offers a number of activities including Friendly Fridays, Nibbles & Natter, Pot Luck Dinners, Quiz Nights and more. They are happy to hire out clubrooms to groups or to host groups who would like to play bowls or petanque.
