Preventing theft from vehicles in Napier

1 min read

Please attribute to Acting Sergeant Peter Gimblett

Police have noticed a developing trend of vehicles being broken into in parts of Napier.

Tools from tradies’ vans and mag wheels from cars have been the targets in Napier Hill, Meeanee, and Napier South.

Thieves took items from 11 vehicles from Thursday 17 May to Tuesday 22 May.

We are making inquiries about these thefts and Police patrols are actively watching for any more criminal activity around vehicles.

We encourage tradies to get their tools engraved with their drivers’ licence number, so if the tools are recovered, we can return them.

Community Patrols of New Zealand in Taradale is offering to engrave tools for free. People can call 021 929 098 to arrange a time to get their tools marked up.

For owners of mag wheels, security locking nuts can be bought from auto stores.

If anyone’s vehicle has been targeted, or if people have information which would help catch these offenders, please call Police on 06 831 0700.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.

We are also asking people to think twice if they’re offered stolen tools or mag wheels, and to tell Police about the seller.
