Hobsonville Community Trust manages two community facilities on behalf of Auckland Council – The Sunderland Lounge and Headquarters Building. These are available for hire everyday, from 7am to 10pm. Both venues can be booked online (72 hrs in advance, or otherwise through our Venues Team). Discounts are available to community groups and events.

Headquarters building
(Te Mahere)

The 1930’s art deco RNZAF Headquarters building has been beautifully refurbished and re-purposed as a community facility. 

There are six rooms ranging from a large room accommodating up to 50 through to a relaxing lounge, and four meeting spaces of varying sizes. 

Sunderland Lounge
(Te rere)

The Sunderland Lounge – Te Rere was built in the late 1940s and was initially used as the airbase’s cinema. It is comprised of a large community hall, a community space with a large kitchen, and a new meeting room.

The maximum capacity of the Sunderland Lounge across all hirers/rooms is 374 due to fire safety ratings.

Additional information

Minimum booking time is 1 hour. Hire can then increase in 15 minute increments.

Online bookings can only be made at least 72 hours in advance. Otherwise bookings need to be made via email ([email protected]) and will only be responded to during office hours. Weekend access is not possible if bookings have not been confirmed by Friday 2pm.

All bookings must include time for setup, arrival meet & greet, packdown and cleaning.

All hirers must leave venue in clean condition, ready for the next hirer (includes sweep/vacuum).

All rubbish must be removed by the hirer.

There is a discount for not-for-profit community groups of 40%.

Special community events/initiatives that contribute directly to targeted community outcomes may be eligible for additional discounting. This is on a case by case basis.

Full terms and conditions of hire can be found by clicking here. We have a 7 day free cancellation policy in 2022. Inside 7 days, the full hire fee will be charged. NB: From 2023 this will be increased to 14 days. 

Alcohol is not allowed for private parties unless an exemption is granted and additional bond of $500 is paid. Exemptions will not be
granted for 18ths, 21sts, or 40ths.

Alcohol requests for all other functions, meetings, regular hire, and events are subject to Venues Team approval and additional bonds and charges may apply. This is also subject to the hirer meeting the conditions of hire in relation to alcohol. Details can be found in our Venue Hire Conditions Document.

If you are considering serving alcohol or having BYO alcohol at your event, you must first discuss this with the Waitemata Alcohol Harm Prevention Unit, New Zealand Police via email ([email protected]).

Our Location

The Headquarters Building and Sunderland Lounge are located in the heart of Hobsonville Point, just a few minutes walk via the coastal walkway to the beautiful Catalina Bay waterfront complete with a range of cafes, restaurants and markets. The two venues are just 200m apart, linked by a lovely park. The venues share dedicated car parking (23 spaces) on Cinema Road and a range of free street parking options.

Our Venues Team office hours are Monday-Friday 8.45am to 2.45pm however the venues are available for hire from 7am to 10pm, 7 days a week.
