To raise awareness about Tourettes and to raise funds for Camp Twitch

Nationwide

On the 14th of August 2020 Sergeant Andy Norton of the Kaiapoi / Rangiora Police will be undertaking a 24 hour cycle ride to raise awareness and funds for the Tourettes Association of New Zealand.

That’s right 24 hrs on a bike.

The Tourettes Association of New Zealand is a charity and as such does not receive any government funding, relying on donations, community grants and fundraising to support the fantastic work in does with people in our communities with Tourettes.

For more information visit their website – tourettes.org.nz.

Since 2016 the association has been running Camp TWITCH, where children and young persons with Tourettes and their families spend a week making new friends, having amazing fun doing some awesome activities in an environment where they can be themselves, without having to worry about those less understanding members of society who stare and talk. The camps moto is ‘tic loud, tic proud’. Whilst the camp is partially subsidised for families, there are still those who cannot afford to go.

Andy is riding to raise funds to help more families attend and to contribute with the running costs of camp.

Andy’s ride will begin at 7pm on Friday 14 August 2020 and finish at 7pm Saturday 15 August, he will be riding on the virtual cycling platform Zwift, real bike, real kilometres, real effort, just in a virtual setting and in a warm safe environment). He will have a maximum 15 minute break every 4 hours meaning in total he will be pedalling for 22.5 hours minimum

He has 3 targets:

247 kmh - Those with Tourettes live with and deal with it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

365 kmh - Those with Tourettes live with and deal with it 365 days a year

520 kmh - Those with Tourettes live with and deal with it 52 weeks a year

Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your support.
