Field Trip Fun!
We are writing a BOOK!
How you can help:
Please fill out the order form (a black and white copy is coming home on Monday, but your child brought home a green form earlier in the week). YOU DO NOT NEED TO ORDER A BOOK (but of course you are welcome to if you would like a copy for your family or for grandparents, etc.). There is a little box at the bottom to check "No, I am not interested at this time." Just check that box and sign the form and send it back in, please! We need one returned form from every family to receive our free book for the class. THANK YOU!!!
Our Learning This Week
Phonics- Our focus this week has been on the long e sound made by the vowel team ee (as in bee, see, and meet) and the vowel team ea (as in tea, eat, and lean).
Math- This week we have been turning our focus to geometry- specifically, the attributes of 2D shapes. We are focusing on the circle, triangle, rectangle, square (and its properties as a "special rectangle"), rhombus, trapezoid, and hexagon.
Writing- We are concentrating on our Sea Creature writing in Writer's Workshop for this week and next week (see above for more info about this special project). This week we chose our topics (specific sea creatures), learned about them (their habitats, bodies, predators, food sources, and special characteristics), and started writing our sentences. It has been a challenge to take a phrase from a fact card, such as "eats shrimp and small fish" and turn it into a complete sentence, but that is the beauty of this writing project- it gives us a real-world opportunity to put into practice what we've been learning in Sentence Boot Camp. The best part about it, though, is that it is FUN. 🐠
