Introducing our draft District Plan
We all want a sustainable city with a great environment and housing, business and employment opportunities for everyone who lives in Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt.
A key part of achieving that is through a rulebook for land use and development called the District Plan. We’ve had our current plan since 2004 and although we’ve made some changes along the way, we’ve now given it a top-to-bottom rewrite and begun the process to develop a finalised version. In late 2023, the draft District Plan was released for public feedback and now we’re working through all your suggestions. Council staff reported back to the District Plan Review Committee in February 2024 with your responses (see the summary of feedback from p12 onwards). Staff are now working on recommendations for the Committee to consider. Reports going to the District Plan Review Committee will be available online.
Later in 2024, when planning staff have made all the necessary changes to the plan and compiled a full evidence base, we’ll seek approval from Council to notify the proposed District Plan for formal submissions.
