I want to live in an Auckland where localism is at the core of how council functions, empowering and listening to our communities.

Council works alongside our communities in true partnership to support and empower them, providing specialist resource and skills to help deliver what our people want.  Despite the massive scale of the city, the local voices are heard and listened to with decisions made that support communities. We’re a multicultural and diverse city, coming together to support each other while celebrating our differences.

Community assets like parks are proactively managed so they’re safe, clean and enjoyable to use.

    1. Ensure that Flat Bush Library and Community Centre is delivered as promised, with no further delays to this critical community cornerstone. Re-priortise funding to ensure this happens sooner than the planned 2030.

    2. Continue to be available in our community to listen and hear your concerns and ideas in formal and informal engagements. Provide feedback and information on decisions made by council and their impact on our community, even the bad news.

    3. Prevent issues like those surrounding Stockade Hill from happening again by improving communication between council and community. Localism should be a strength, not a weakness.

    4. Ensuring that East Auckland’s voice is heard at council and listened to by building strong professional relationships with other councillors and staff.

    5. Providing better transparency on resource consent applications and projects, providing more opportunities for locals to engage constructively before decisions are made.

    6. Devolve more decision making and funding to local boards to enable them to respond to local needs.

    1. Embrace our multicultural and diverse communities by supporting and engaging with the wide range of people within our city.

    2. Ensure that council communication and consultations are done in ways that are relevant and accessible to all people. Not just multilingual, but also multi-format recognising that people consume information in different ways.

    3. Advocate on behalf of all communities, especially those whose voices are not being heard such as our young people and new immigrants.

    1. Encourage and support community-led planting and pest free initiatives and ensure these are coordinated alongside council led programmes.

    2. Protect our native wildlife by boosting support for biodiversity and pest control and actively engage with community groups and volunteers to build a wide network.

    3. Reduce the bureaucracy community organisations are forced to navigate through for funding and other council support, shifting the focus to enabling the community.

    4. Promote and enable placemaking as a way for people to be more actively engaged in their communities.

    1. Ensure that the planned Ormiston Aquatic Centre is designed and built with accessibility in mind, to deliver a world class facility for everyone.

    2. Protect our parks from sell-offs, we need our green spaces even more as we grow. Any revenue collected from asset sales must be returned to the local community and not put into general revenue.

    3. Invest in our facilities like Lloyd Elsmore Skatepark to ensure they're fit for purpose, providing local opportunities for our youth. Other parts of Auckland have amazing recreational facilities yet East Auckland is being left behind.

    4. Create safer communities through better design, supporting community patrols and greater enforcement of bylaws to discourage bad behaviour in our communities.

    5. Ensure we see the end shoddy park maintenance by keeping the contractors honest and enforcing punishments agreed within contracts (e.g. fines).

    6. Reduce reliance on chemical spraying in parks through use of mechanical and other alternatives.

    7. Make every beach swimmable by investing heavily in water quality and stormwater infrastructure.

    8. Taking urgent action to slow down and, where possible prevent, further soil and cliff erosion to protect our coastline green spaces and properties.

    9. Reducing the impact of flooding by preparing our streets and infrastructure to cope with increased extreme weather events brought on by climate change.
