Why this petition matters

Started by Phil O

An Environmental Island in the middle of Avondale will be chopped down if developers have their way. The biodiversity that will be lost if these trees are cut will be devastating to the natural environment and natural linkages through the Whau area.

Over 17 species of outstanding mature native trees exist on this 3500 m² block of land. It is currently on the market for sale. Situated  at 52 to 58 Canal Road the environmental services provided by these outstanding trees will be lost forever if they are removed.

Help save our kids future and our local biodiversity by signing this petition to get Auckland Council, Central Government  and all stakeholders to:

1. purchase the land and turn it into a tree reserve/pocket park for the community or

2. at the very least to make the trees notable and protect them

3. consider every available innovative methodology of protecting trees through collaboration, co-management, co-funding and community consultation

Exercise your right to make a difference and embrace the concept of Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) no matter where you’re from in this planet.

We need these special spaces in our cities and we can only loose them once - forever.  Stand up and make a future legacy for everyone to be amazed by.
