Weatherside is a defective cladding which was used between 1975 and 1985 until it was discontinued due to weather tightness issues. It is often mistaken for Hardiplank. Some houses have been partially re-clad in Hardiplank, but some Weatherside cladding still remains.

If the paint on the exterior of the Weatherside cladding isn’t regularly maintained then water can penetrate the cladding. Once water gets in, the glue fails and the cladding turns into ‘weetbix’ which you can poke your finger through. This can rot out the studs on the inside, causing major structural issues.

Homeowners received compensation packages to get their houses re-clad however a lot of the homes still have Weatherside cladding today.

If you're looking at buying a house and you are unsure of the cladding, get in touch for a building inspection.
